search engine optimization techniques that help you build a better web site
1. content content content
How important is content, well the word on the street is basically that 'content' is KING! Search engines love the stuff, more the better but it must be relevant to your site or to the topic with which it is referenced to.
Do not place non specific information if has no meaning to your site, or just because you think that you can mention google or other major concerns in thinking this will promote your site to higher rankings.
Always use fresh content, and never adapt the I couldn't be bothered attitude and copy other peoples work - you will eventually be penalized!
A great source of fresh content is from
Feedzilla.com.
The content programme intergrates into your web site very easily with just a simple cut copy paste action into your existing web page.
We use Feedzilla.com both on our main home page and on our seo news page
2. title tags
Insert into your title tags the most important keyword at the beginning.
For example a shop that sells shoes in New York:
<title>Shoes direct from Manhattan New York<title />
Here we used three relevant keywords, Shoes, Manhattan (the area where the store is located) and New York. There are many ways to alter and include keywords and key phases into titles, try a title and see how the results pick up within the search results, and change if required until you reach a happy medium.
3. html header coding
Keep the code as short and concise as possible, this will allow all the important information such as keywords to be viewed quicker and closer to the heading of the page.
4. meta tags
Meta tags allow for a description of the site and a list of relevant keywords with which the search engines can use to deploy your site if relevant to the search results from that engine or directory.
Use our free tool to check your sites meta tags or to write new ones.
5. headers, h1, h2, h3
As you can see from our index page, each paragraphed section is broken up to utilize a heading to denote the topic.
These headers use relevant keywords so that they are picked up within the source code by the search engines. This is an important factor for the search engines when gathering who's site has the most relevant information to show within their results pages.
6. image alt tags and
coding tags
Initially the image alt tag was used to pre curse the loaded image and give information about the image that was being loaded. However spamming of these tags has now meant that they are not as important as they once were, but that should not mean that they or other tags should be ignored.
Good coding of your web site is important, again our free tool will examine your site and list from a scale of 1-10 how well your site performs.

7.links
Internal and external site links should not be broken.
Links to external sites must be relevant to the subject, if possible try to get link backs from high ranking sites.
Build up your links slowly and don't be afraid of showing some of the competition on your site (don't be rude about the competiton in any articles - if you do feel that way inclined then don't bother including them on your site), if your clients enjoy your site and the content within it then you will have nothing to worry about.
8. spam
Play fair with the search engines and directories, never never and I say again NEVER spam your site, either in the html coding or via the text that is viewed on the browser. Also if you are considering using a search engine optimization company (SEO) to promote your site use a reputable company with a proven track record, contact their clients if possible to confirm just how good they really are. I write this as a word of warning, in the past many SEO companies claimed that they could get any site into the top results pages of Google. That maybe true in the short term, but long term your site may have end up being dropped due to spamming techniques used by undesirable companies - getting back into search engines and directories like Google or Yahoo could become a nightmare for you.
